I am looking for a student (preferably a PhD candidate) who would be interested in collaborating with me on a new Erasmus Plus project (concise description below). Work will entail about a a day a week for about 18 months, in the aim of creating “easy to read” criteria, so as to maximize communication with people displaying language difficulties.

Important skills include:

- a working level of English
- fluency in French, as it’s the language we will be writing the criteria in and for
- a good grasp of German, as this is the language that the first set of criteria has been drafted in, and
- an idea of linguistic complexity (as the idea is to steer clear of it in the materials to be created).

Mostly the work can be done online, although there will be some in-person events organised (travel expenses covered from within Europe). There is also a monthly online meeting taking place on Tuesday mornings Swiss time. Those interested can send a paragraph or two explaining how their expertise matches the requirements.

Short description:
The main topic of our project will be easy-to-read language and accessible information. We will collaborate with “Capito” in Austria, who has been working in this field for 20 years and has developed over 90 well researched and well tested criteria for the German language. In our current project, the first aim is to linguistically and scientifically transfer these criteria to French and Italian. The person who will work alongside Stephanie Durrleman will specifically for the transfer to French.

The criteria developed will subsequently be applied and tested in practice, with the invaluable help of our collaborators. Finally, the person assisting will also contribute to conceiving and creating two types of trainings: (a) an easy-to-read training for adults who want to train others in easy-to-read and (b) a training for adults with disabilities who want to become co-trainers in workshops on accessible information. The project will be 18 months long, and it kicked off in August 2022.
