In the proposed project, we investigate learners’ trajectories of transition from gesture to sign. We ask how gesture transitions to a phonologically-specified hand configuration. We investigate learner production (using lexicon-based elicitation) and comprehension by native signers (using EEG methodology) of signs at different stages of transition. - Knowledge of formational and meaning properties of signs

- Good quantitative and statistical analysis skills would be advantageous

- Exposure to/experience with EEG methodology would be beneficial

- Excellent team-working skills, esp. in deaf-hearing team

- Excellent communication skills, esp. written English
