The Spring Festival
“春节”标志着农历新年的开始，是中国人最重要的传统节日之一。“春节”是一个持续的庆祝过程——很多地方会从农历腊月初八一直庆祝到正月十五。
The Spring Festival marks the beginning of the Chinese Lunar New Year and is one of the most important traditional festivals for the Chinese people. The celebration of the Spring Festival lasts for several days. In many places, it starts on the 8th day of the 12th lunar month and ends on the 15th day of the 1st lunar month of the next year.

Chinese Lunar New Year's Eve
农历年最后一天的晚上叫“除夕”。在这一天，全家人要一起贴春联、包饺子、吃年夜饭，有的家庭还会通宵守岁，共同迎接新年的到来。
The Chinese Lunar New Year's Eve is called "Chuxi". On this day, the whole family will paste up Spring Festival couplets (red strips of paper with poetry lines written in gold or black characters), make jiaozi (Chinese dumplings), and have a New Year's Eve dinner together. Some families will stay up all night to welcome the arrival of the New Year.

People usually give New Year’s greetings from the first day to the fifth day of the first lunar month. The most traditional way to give New Year's greetings is to visit others in person. During the Spring Festival, people will put different amounts of cash in red paper bags and give them to young children to express their wishes for good fortune. In recent years, virtual red packets have become increasingly popular. According to statistics, a total of 823 million people sent and received WeChat (Chinese social media platform) Red Packets between the Lunar New Year's Eve and the fifth day of the first lunar month of 2019.

The Chinese zodiac is a series of twelve animals used by the Chinese people to represent years. The series includes: the rat, the ox, the tiger, the rabbit, the Chinese dragon, the snake, the horse, the sheep, the monkey, the rooster, the dog, and the pig, which follow a twelve-year cycle. According to the lunar calendar, this year's Spring Festival is followed by the Year of the Ox, so a typical New Year’s greeting is: "牛年大吉（Good luck in the Year of the Ox）!" Children born in this year have the zodiac sign of Ox.
