The Martin Centre for Appliable Linguistics at Shanghai Jiao Tong University is privileged to host the International Conference on Appliable Linguistics and Legal Discourse from14 to 18 December, 2016. The conference will consist of five days of plenary speeches and parallel sessions exploring the following topics

Analysing the use of language by parties in the court (judges, lawyers, prosecutors and defendants, etc.) 

Identifying the speaker or author of legal evidence (audios, videos, letters, notes, etc.)

Investigating statements either oral or written for courtroom use 

Examining the genuineness of texts and auditory materials (plagiarism cases, genuine vs. fake notes, doctored sound/video recordings in suicidal or terrorism cases, etc.)

Interpreting and translating legal discourses/texts

Scholars are welcome to submit a 100-150 word abstract to the organizing committee (martincentre@163.com). The deadline for submission is July 1, 2016. Offers of acceptance will be sent by July 31, 2016.
